A few weeks ago, we finished our 'ocean-themed' artwork, and I shipped them off to Art to Remember to be made into magnets.
Last Friday, your magnet arrived and was delivered to your classroom!
If you wish to purchase the magnet, please send in your $5. If you wish to order more magnets or purchase other items, please have payment due by October 17. Cash is preferred, however, checks can be made to Jeffries Elementary.

Each student at Jeffries will be participating in the poster contest depicting our school theme...UNDER CONSTRUCTION: BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES! If your student(s) do not finish their artwork during art class, they may finish them at home! PLEASE be sure they artwork is returned to me by Sept 9 for the contest. There will be 1 winner in each grade level that will have their artwork framed and displayed in the hallway for the entire school year...what an honor!!!!

Ready or not, school starts soon!!! Are you ready? I have been busy planning new and exciting art projects for the school year! I am so excited to see everyone back and new faces, too!

While you are shopping for school supplies, keep in mind that we could always use a box of baby wipes in the art room; we do not have a sink available for student access, so the wipes come in handy for art messes. Your donation is GREATLY appreciated!

Be sure to stop in the Art Room on Tuesday, August 23rd during Meet the Teacher night.

ARTWORKS 2011!

Students in grades 4-8 (during the 2011-12 school year) are eligible to register for ARTWORKS beginning April 11th.

ARTWORKS will be held Mon-Thurs, June 13-24 at Sequiota Elementary

The ARTWORKS Program, now in it's 29th year, is a multi-disciplinary approach to the arts. The program allows student to study with professional artists and art teachers in the visual media and performing arts for an intensive 9 days. ARTWORKS has one session with a morning and an afternoon class. Students may attend EITHER the morning OR afternoon sessions.

It is with great excitement to announce the dates of the all-school art exhibit at the Springfield Art Museum! Many of our talent Jeffries students' artwork will be on display for this highly anticipated event.

The exhibit will be open to the public beginning March 15 through April 17.

Museum hours are:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday- 9:00-5:00
Thursday- 9:00-8:00
Sunday- 1:00-5:00
Closed on Monday

The Springfield Art Museum is located at 1111 E. Brookside, just west of National. Admission is free.

The students' magnets have arrived!!!!
Volunteers will be distributing the envelopes containing the magnets and purchasing information to each classroom this week. All of the ordering information will be included in the envelope. Magnets are $5 each (cash preferred), and proceeds help fund our art program! :)
Orders must be returned to classroom teachers by Monday, October 25.
If you do not wish to purchase the magnet, please return the magnet and envelope to your child's teacher.

It's hard to believe that in just a few weeks we will be back to school with our new school theme, "Wild About Learning"! I hope you are as excited as I am!!! I have been busy this summer getting the art room ready & preparing new lessons for the year.

The annual Springfield All School Art Exhibition opens March 13 at the Springfield Art Museum. This exhibition, which celebrates Youth Art Month, is selected and installed by Springfield teachers and represents the creative abilities of the City’s talented K-12 students.

Schools participating in this year’s exhibition include Springfield R-12 Schools, Summit Preparatory School, Immaculate Conception Elementary School, Greenwood Laboratory School, Saint Joseph Elementary School, Kingswood Methodist School, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School, Springfield Lutheran Schools, Carpenter’s Kids, Saint Agnes Elementary School, Springfield Seventh-Day Adventist, and Springfield Catholic High School.

During spring break, I had the pleasure of attending the MAEA (Missouri Art Educators Association) Spring Conference at Tan-Tar-A Resort. I have learned so many exciting new art lessons, and I am anxious to present them to our students!!!

KILN FOR CERAMICS!!!

I am excited to announce that Jeffries' Art Department has a brand-new kiln for ceramics! Since we will be creating lots of clay art this year, we will be getting messy! :) Please remember when you have art class and not to wear your favorite clothes on that day. Since art is on a cart, clean-up gets a bit tricky. So, if you could bring a box of wet wipes to share, it would really help in keeping things clean. :)
